Since 2015 Blue Star Donuts (a Portlandian original) has been baking gourmet donuts and making brioche dough, glazes, and fillings from scratch at 3:00am every day on Abbot Kinney.
Flavors include Hard Apple Cider Fritter, Cointreau Creme Brûlée, and Valrhona Chocolate Crunch. The best part of this shop is that everything's out in the open, so you can see how the donuts get made from start to sweet finish.
Erewhon - a healthy alternative
The name can be hard to pronounce, but it's just nowhere spelled backwards.
Erewhon, a speciality health food store, first opened in 1968 and continues to serve its local community with superfoods (or a balance in lifestyle when we've maybe had one too many donuts) at four locations including the popular Venice spot packed with farmers market worthy fruits and vegetables, flowers, juice concoctions, bone broth, soups and prepared food like we want to make at home.
