Dressing Up

Hourglass

When a party or event calls for something pretty, we like to skip the department store and opt for a more unique ensemble.

It's always nice to visit a few of the airy bungalows lining Abbot Kinney carrying non-ubiquitous designers with less than luxury brand price tags. See JAM friend and actor, Taylor Cole, elegantly show off the goods.

Hourglass's flagship cosmetic boutique can complete the look...

We made sure to see our favorite make-up artist, Alex Gallindo, with an intuitive in-house consultation using their entire line of beautiful products. Their local founder, Carisa Jane, was inspired by the incredible sunsets in Venice when she created their signature Illume palette aptly named "Sunset."

Make-up Tips

By Alex Gallindo at Hourglass

  1. Use the bronze shade in the hollows of the cheekbone (First color on the left of the Illume palette). Using the top of your ear as a guideline, blend back and forth with a good brush. To soften use the highlight shade (lightest color on the right of Illume palette).
  2. Take the blush shade from the center of the palette and brush on the apples of your cheek - think Pikachu!
  3. Apply the highlight shade again on the top of the cheekbone, blend lightly. Place on the top of the brow bone as well. This could also be used on the eyelid and lips to create a glow. The Illume palette in Sunset is very flattering, easy to apply, and versatile as it can be used all over due to its cream to powder performance.
