All Things Blooming

from exquisitely curated to homemade do-it-yourself

Our favorite florist happens to be right in the neighborhood. You can find Fiore's shop next to local barbershop Svelte but they also sell their graceful arrangements and fetching fresh cut flowers at another JAM favorite, Erewhon. Krystal Chang, our fleuriste du jour, is someone we also hire when looking for the exceptional. Don't look anywhere else if you need stunning flowers for a special event or loved one.

Bouquet on a Budget

Make one for a fraction of the cost...

When $150 is a little out of your usual daily budget to spend on a flower arrangement you can always look to the local farmers market and your own creativity. We asked our favorite JAM contributor Krystal Chang, (who is not only a talented architect and writer, but also provides custom design services on all things blooming) to teach us how to make one for ourselves for a fraction of the cost - watch our video to see how!

  1. Shopping - “I love to shop on Friday mornings at the Venice Farmers Market. You can find seasonal flowers from local growers and everything is super affordable. There are mixed bouquets and single flowers like these roses which were just a dollar each. It’s great because you can choose just the ones that you want. "
  2. Making the bouquet - “I usually start with the greenery. You want to make sure to take off the foliage that would fall along the waterline of the vase and cut at least an inch off the stems. I start from the edges and work my way to the center. Cut your flowers shorter as you work your way to the middle.”
  3. Creating a dramatic effect - “To create a focal point for your arrangement, you can cluster the same type of flower together and it gives your eye an easy way into the flowers. “ I also used jasmine I clipped from my yard in this bouquet. It’s always good to look in your yard or around you and see what you can use.”
  4. The final product!
